Abstract

The article focuses on the artist-creator as the key figure of French symbolism. The author analyzes ideas on the essence and tasks of artistic creativity of some icons of different periods of the development of the symbolism in France: Sh. Baudelaire, S. Mallarme, J. Peladan (early symbolism); A. Zhid, P. Claudel and belgian M. Maeterlinck (late symbolism, or post-symbolism). The author considers authentic individual ideas of each of these artists on the art and metaphysics of art, as well as the things they have in common, that are the primary issues of symbolization and the idealization in the art; of its anagogical mission; of the correspondence between the spiritual and objective worlds; of the aestheticism and increased expressiveness; of the suggestion and intuitive nature of the artistic creativity.
