Abstract

The paper deals with stories about friends in Jikkinsho (13th c.) compared with others examples of friendly relations (in Ise-monogatari etc.) In Japanese literature, friendship is in most cases an overcoming of inequality in overall social hierarchy, and it is unanimity (doshin) what enables such transcendence.
