Abstract

The idea of agape as it is manifested through the Commandment of love represents two, mutually dependent intentions - towards God and towards one’s neighbor. The love content of this idea is chiefly revealed in the nature of God’s love, who by his towards the Human being demonstrates the sublime standard of love. The Old Testament books show God’s love as unconditioned, non-pragmatic and internally valuable. Christian God shows His love to Human, His sacrificing devotion to the beloved, in His readiness and actual effort to take their burdens, including the heaviest one - the burden of sins.
