Incest taboo is considered as “the ban which created culture”, the latter being understood according to Freud - as “the sum of the establishments allowing to settle human relations”. The analysis of cultural phenomena in the perspective of depth psychology allows to gain sight both of human sense of historical and cultural dynamics, and of the historical and cultural content of individual experiences as well as to analyse one of fundamental dichotomies of culturology - a dichotomy between individual experience and an some or other impersonal institute of culture, e.g. a norm, a prohibition, or a sanction. A number of the areas in which recourse to ideas and achievements of deep psychology can be especially fruitful for the culturological analysis is traced.
